EuroFlam opportunities at Pisa Contributed by EuroFlam Management Committee Cardiff, Wales, 25th June, 1999 - Ref.: 9906art22At the EuroFlam annual seminar last week we noted that ENEL still needed a number of candidates to complete its 1999-2000 intake. This lead to the preparation of an advertisement for placement on the IFRF IFRF NET website and at other locations. Looking for fresh work opportunities? Do you want to stay in a lovely part of the Mediterranean? If the answer is yes to all of these, then the solution is to undertake a EuroFlam (http://www.euroflam.net/index.html) training through research opportunity at the ENEL SRI situated in Pisa, one of the famous Italian walled cities. These possibilities apply to graduate engineers and scientists, but are also available to technical engineers and to undergraduates in their, normally in their final year who should work for their graduation project. Applicants should be nationals of an EU Member or Associated states. ENEL is one of the leading Italian power companies supplying 80% of the nations electricity requirements. The work carried out at the research centre in Pisa ranges from preliminary studies through to pilot and prototype plants and full size demonstrations on large power stations. Its facilities are located in Livorno (near Pisa, with pilot plant up to 5 MWth), Sesta (near Siena, full scale gas turbine test rig), and Cagliari (in Sardinia, with two test boilers and a Boiler Simulation Facility). ENEL offers its visiting investigators the unique opportunity to work directly on full-size power combustion-systems. The experience gained from working within existing teams covers crucial aspects of combustion and pollution formation in furnaces and boilers. These aspects include atomisation, expert systems and advanced diagnostics, boiler modelling, chemical pollution and micro-pollution formation, treatment, characteristic of residues produced by power plants, etc.. Parallel to this work, computational techniques will be developed and validated using industrial data. The period of access for visiting investigators is typically six months. Travel costs to and from Pisa are reimbursed, and the visiting investigator receives a stipend to cover local living expenses during the visit. The European Commission via the "Training and Mobility of Researchers" (TMR) programme supports the programme. Applicants should contact: Dr. Mario Graziadio -
