Using the IFRF NET web site Where has the window gone? Contributed by Peter Roberts IJmuiden, NL, 21st June, 1999 - Ref.: 9906art14 Two weeks ago we noted that we are getting indications that we need to clarify to the new Members, what services are available and how they work. Thus starting last week we commenced publishing a series of explanations on what is available both in the International Combustion Community Domain and in the IFRF Members Only Domain (Please recall that the IFRF NET User Manual may be downloaded as a pdf file). This week we will look at the infamous "non-appearing windows". Example 1: I receive the Monday Night Mail by email. I click on the web address to read an article on the web. Nothing happens! Answer: Check whether you have already loaded Navigator or Explorer. In that case, if it is running in the background, the MNM article can be loaded into that window but the window is not "brought to the front". Click on the programme icon on the bottom bar there is the article! Example 2: I am browsing the "Discussion Threads" display board in the MOD. I see a question which I want to read in detail. I click on the question. Nothing happens! Answer: Similarly to the previous problem, check whether you have already opened the satellite window. In that is the case and it is running in the background, the question will be loaded into that window but again the window is not "brought to the front". Click on the window icon on the bottom bar there is the question! These situations are not ideal but they are the characteristics of the web browser programmes and cannot be controlled from the programme links. More next week.
