Professor Quack

It is with regret that we inform our readers of the death of Professor R Quack on 11th July at the age of 92.

Professor Quack was a very strong supporter of the German Flame Research Committee - the DVV, and the International Flame Research Foundation - the IFRF. He was renowned in Germany and indeed Internationally for his work in relation to the Power Generation Industry.

He worked in industry from 1933 to 1953, both in Germany and Sweden. Following this he took the chair at IVD at the University of Stuttgart which he held to 1978 when he became Professor Emeritus.

Concerning the IFRF he was Chairman of the Coal panel and thus an Member of the IFRF Board of Directors - the Joint Committee - from 1969 to 1973.

The IFRF would like to convey their condolences to Professor Quack’s family and his colleagues. He will remain in our memory as a man who demonstrated his intense and enthusiastic interest in the work of the IFRF remaining regularly in contact even in his last years.
