Flame Day News
From the Communications Centre

We should recall that IFRF Flame Days are organised by National Committees for Flame Research primarily for the benefit of their own Member Organisations. However all IFRF NET Members organisations are made welcome.

Those readers who are not associated to the IFRF through a Member Organisation should note that by tradition the National Committees welcome them to participate fully in the meetings, in order to gain an appreciation of the work of the IFRF and the potential advantages of membership. In this sense, Flame Days are Open Meetings.

September is a favourite period for Flame Days and in 2001, we have three such meetings. The most recent news comes from the BFRC who have just completed their draft programme.

British Flame Days 2001
"Trends in Industrial Combustion"
British Flame are holding their 2001 Flame Days at Weetwood Hall, Leeds on 19th and 20 September 2001.

The Conference is part of our series of Flame Days, which are aimed at providing a forum for industrialists and researchers to discuss technologies and research needs focussing on practical, industrial-based, combustion systems.

The aim of our 2001 Meeting is to identify, and discuss the technologies, which will be needed for industrial combustion systems to meet the future challenges of high efficiency and low emissions. Our programme includes speakers from the cement, power generation and petrochemical industries, as well as leading suppliers of fuel, equipment and services providers. In addition, there will be presentations from leading UK University Departments researching into industrial energy and combustion technologies.

The Meeting is open to members and non-members of the British Flame Research Committee.

Details of the programme can be seen at: http://www.ifrf.net/flame-days/

For further information about the Conference please contact Sandra Godoy on s.godoy@city.ac.uk.

Details of costs and procedures for registration will be posted shortly.

For further information about the British Flame Research Committee, which is a founder member of the International Flame Research Foundation, please contact Jeff Rhine at Rhinenergy@aol.com or by telephone at +44 121 441 3865.

The status of the other September Flame Days is given below:

20th German Flame Days - "Combustion and Combustion Technology"
German Flame (DVV) in association with the VDI and the German Section of the Combustion Institute are jointly sponsoring their 20th German Flame Days.
The Flame Days are hosted by the University of Essen and will be held in Essen on the 4th and 5th September 2001. The final programme will be issued very shortly.

2001 Joint AFRC/JFRC/IEA International Combustion Symposium.
"Toward Efficient Zero Emission Combustion - Advances in Air-Fuel and Oxy-fuel Technologies"

The American and Japanese Flame Research Committees in co-operation with the IEA are holding their Flame Days in Kauai, Hawaii, USA on September 9-12, 2001.
