The IV Symposium on High Temperature Air Combustion and Gasification http://htacg4.enea.it/ is a technical meeting, specially focussed on subjects referred to as "high temperature preheating" or "mild" or "flameless" or "diluted " combustion etc, It is the first time that the symposium will be held in Europe, the three preceding symposia were held in Japan. However quite a few important contributions from Far East countries (including China) will be presented for the first time in Europe.

The subject has received more and more attention in recent years, not only thanks to the industrial breakthrough applications in high temperature processes, where spectacular energy and emissions savings have been achieved, but also because progress in basic investigation has fostered new potential uses of the technique in gas turbines, clean and reburning combustion of difficult fuels (including wastes), decentralised energy generation etc.

Invited plenary sessions from eminent leaders will focus attention on a ten year story of successful industrial developments and of efforts by academic institutions to assess the fundamental phenomena, modelling and prediction rules. Numerous contributions have been announced from industries or industry related organizations, typically from IFRF members with representatives of several European countries.

The event is being organized and supported by ENEA (Casaccia Laboratories) and will take place in the splendid frame of the Roman Capital on 26-29 November 2001. The meeting has been promoted together with Japanese R&D Organizations, who have pioneered this technology since a long time, and is supported by the IFRF NET and by the Combustion Institute.

There is still a last minute chance to propose a paper title with a short abstract (1000 words) for presentation – the deadline for receipt of proposals is the end of June.

If you have a potential contribution, submit it NOW, and do not miss out on the opportunity to join what promises to be an important and factual meeting on a most promising technology open to novel applications.

Full details on the symposium including conference fee, accommodation and information on submission of papers are available from the symposium web site http://hatcg4.enea.it/ (email: htacg4@casaccia.enea.it).
Further information is also available from Mr Girardi, chairman of the Italian Committee IFRF (girardi@casaccia.enea.it) and Mr Milani of the organizing committee (ambrogio.milani@libero.it).
