International Combustion Meetings Update From the Communications Centre Contributed by Lois Brett and Peter Roberts IJmuiden, NL, 17th April 2000 - Ref.:0004art10 The Copenhagen TOTeMs - Register Now! Host: Technical University of Denmark
We published full details of the programmes last week along with the registration and poster presentation proposal utilities. We urge you to register now - these meetings will be held immediately after Midsummer - a very popular vacation period in Denmark - why not take your vacation in conjunction with the TOTeMs? INFUB V - Espino, Portugal - 11th - 14th April Professor Albino Reis, his Organising Committee and Conference Staff were responsible for the production of yet another successful "INFUB", the 5th European Conference on Industrial Furnaces and Boilers held at Espino near Porto last week. There were around 200 delegates from 28 Countries with Keynote Lectures, Verbal and poster presentation sessions on topic ranging from Burners, Combustion and Basic Heat Transfer, through Furnace and Boiler Operation and Design, Alternative Fuels and Waste Heat Recovery, Modelling of Furnaces and Combustion Systems to Pollution Aspects. The Foundation was well represented and the quality of the communication was excellent - the Weather? Well as the saying goes, "you can't win them all!" AFRC Fall Symposium 17th to 21st September - 2nd Call The Technical Chair of the upcoming AFRC Fall Symposium Dr Matt Miyasato has requested that we inform all IFRF members that the American Flame Research Committee is soliciting technical papers from individuals and groups engaged in research, development, and commercialization of technologies for improvements in combustion, pollution abatement, and energy utilization in industrial combustion systems for the Symposium. The symposium "Industrial Combustion in the New Millennium - Where Do We Go From Here?" will be held on September 17-21, 2000 at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel and Tennis Club, Newport Beach, California and will be hosted by the Advanced Power and Energy Program, University of California, Irvine. The Symposium chair will be Professor Scott Samuelsen. The Symposium wishes to address the current and future needs of industrial combustion and the technologies that will fill these needs. Proposed papers may cover diagnostics, advanced combustion techniques, modeling, emissions measurement and analyses, environmental impact of combustion, field experiences and demonstrations, and applied combustion research and technologies. All submissions should relate to an industrial combustion application. The deadline for paper submission has been extended and anyone wishing to offer a paper should submit an abstract (100 to 300 words) no later than May 15, 2000 to Dr Miyasato. Authors will be notified of submission acceptance by June 1, 2000. Completed papers are due August 15, 2000 for inclusion in the proceedings. Details on the symposium are available on the web at the IFRF Meetings page (http://www.ifrf.net/ifrf_net/meetings.html) and also at the Conference website (http://www.afrc.uci.edu). For individuals wishing to submit a paper for this conference please direct your correspondence to the Symposium Technical Chair: Dr. Matt Miyasato We remind our readers that this symposium is an Open Meeting and so may be attended by both IFRF Members and non-members. Similarly papers may be submitted by members and non-members.
